Easy DIY Gifts Everyone Will Love!

One afternoon in the kitchen with some basic tools and just a few ingredients will yield high quality DIY gifts everyone on your list will love. Include the recipe as the card so your friends and family can carry the healthy habit of natural skin care well into the New Year!

1/4 cup unrefined shea butter
1/8 cup coconut oil

 1 tablespoon beeswax

15 drops lavender essential oil

Using a double boiler (or a glass canning jar in a pan of 1/2-1 inch of simmering water), melt the shea butter, beeswax, and coconut oil together, stirring with a wooden utensil as the ingredients melt. (I use the handle of a wooden spoon)

When all the ingredients are melted, remove from the heat and allow the mixture to cool for 5-10 minutes.

Next, add lavender essential oil (or your favorite oil or blend), stirring gently. While the mixture is still liquid, pour it into a shallow glass jar (like these). Let it cool completely. For a firmer end product, refrigerate until solid. This recipe can also be whipped using a hand mixer to create a light and fluffy texture. Just allow to cool to room temperature before mixing on low to medium speed.

4 oz. Goat’s Milk Soap Base
approximately 30 drops eucalyptus essential oil

approximately 30 drops lavender essential oil

(Adjust the amount of essential oil used based on the desired strength of scent or therapeutic benefit. A safe range is a 3% dilution.)

Using a double boiler (or a glass canning jar in a pan of 1/2-1 inch of simmering water), gently warm the soap base. Once melted, remove from the heat and stir in essential oils. Pour mixture into a soap or candy molds(like these or these). Let soap bar(s) cool completely. Remove from molds and enjoy! Helpful Hint: Extra soap bars can be wrapped in beeswax wrap or wax paper to help preserve the fragrance longer during storage.
